For the Mountain State Rotary E-Club, September is Club Fundraising time, along with Rotary International's Basic Education & Literacy Month. This year, the Tucker Community Foundation event, Run For It, has gone virtual making it easier to involve family, friends, colleagues and/or fellow Rotarians in your own neighborhood. We hope you'll participate!

E-CLUB PROGRAM

PRESIDING TODAY IS: Bonnie Branciaroli, President

bellDing! We’re now in session.

Welcome all – visitors, fellow Rotarians and guests alike to this E-Club program!

Remember the Four-Way Test!

At the beginning of each meeting we remind ourselves of the The Four-Way Test.  Therefore, please remember to ask yourself always . . .

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Reflective Moments

“The more that you read, The more things you will know. The more that you learn, The more places you will go .”
       – Dr. Seuss

“A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.”
       – Sasha Salmina

“If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger.”
       ― Buzz Aldrin

Leadership Quotes

“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
        – Frederick Douglass

“Frederick Douglass taught that literacy is the path from slavery to freedom. There are many kinds of slavery and many kinds of freedom, but reading is still the path.”
       – Carl Sagan

“People cited violation of the First Amendment when a New Jersey schoolteacher asserted that evolution and the Big Bang are not scientific and that Noah's ark carried dinosaurs. This case is not about the need to separate church and state; it's about the need to separate ignorant, scientifically illiterate people from the ranks of teachers.”
       – Neil deGrasse Tyson

2020 Run For It Goes Virtual

Our “Running for Rotary” 8-member team did a great job last year at the September 2019 ‘Run For It’ event in Davis, West Virginia. Through the campaign period, we brought in over $800 in sponsorships and garnered $1,295 in Race Awards and entry fees. The total earned of $2,104.42 was given to Heart and Hand House in Philippi, Barbour County to help feed kids through an established Backpack program.

Each week, Heart and Hand House provides supplemental food to over 125 Barbour County school children to take home over the weekend or holiday break to help cover meal gaps when school is not in session. The organization provides food to 89 Philippi Middle School students every week and to 71 students at Junior Elementary School every other week. At an average cost of $3 per child per week, the cost of food for a six-week period is $2,250.

Our goal this year is to raise funds for a 12-week period:  $4,500! And we need you to help!

A Virtual Race Makes It Easy!

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we do not have to congregate in Davis, WV on a specific date. We can gather as family or friends, chose our own route (the backyard, the neighborhood street, a special park or even a treadmill). We set our own pace, choose either the 2K walk or the 5K run, and run or walk on our own schedule anywhere we want.

This is the perfect excuse to get outdoors, socially-distance and gather for a common cause!
